Curious How I got Here?
Several years into my healthcare career, I was working a full-time management job in DC when Dad’s diagnosis came.
I was 28 years old.
I struggled to find out as much as I could about dementia. I spent hours Googling and attending lectures. I buried myself in news articles, and watched a slew of webinars by healthcare experts. But it wasn’t enough. The resources out there targeted caregivers living with the person with dementia. (And several years later, this is still the case!) These resources never covered how dementia affected me. They never spoke to how dementia changed my life as a long-distance daughter, or how best to address my fears for the future. Famous researchers never resolved how I could stop feeling so helpless, living far away from my parents.
I connected with my colleagues in the health care field. I started to create a plan for my parents based on best practices for dementia and on their needs.
After feeling so victimized and isolated by this disease, I now felt empowered!
Long-distance caregivers could make a difference!
At that point, I knew I wanted to teach long-distance caregivers* everywhere everything I learned. I started Befriended Heart, and became certified in teaching about dementia and advising elders.
Why Do My Certifications Matter?
I'm a Certified Senior Advisor and Certified Dementia Practitioner.
Here’s why that’s important.
Certification requires education, experience, and continuing education. So I continue to learn cutting-edge research and best practices, and I share them with you! It also means that I’m nationally recognized as a leader in the dementia and eldercare fields, and I’m committed to high ethical standards and exceptional service.
I meld these 2 certifications together to save you precious time, and teach you the most important things — exactly when you need to know them. (We’re talking tips that took me several years of research and experience to learn.)
Now, Back to You
With my guidance, you can create a new loving relationship with your Forgetful Parent. You can help relieve your Caregiving Parent’s stress. You can find balance in your own life despite dementia. And you can plan ahead and make the best of a dementia diagnosis, even if your parents aren't able to do it themselves.
Here’s the Thing
We long-distance caregivers need support getting through dementia too! So I’ve dedicated my career to providing that. You’ll learn best practices, and best of all, you’ll create more time. More time to create new memories and discover opportunities to live in the moment. You’ll also help your parents make the best future decisions for happiness and ease, despite this disease.
Can’t wait to meet you!
