Long-Distance Caregivers*

To Discover Joy in Dementia

Hi there, I’m Laura!

I’m a long-distance daughter helping my parents navigate dementia.

When my dad was diagnosed several years ago, all the information out there was so depressing and impersonal. Not to mention overwhelming! I felt so alone. I had no idea what I was looking for, how to organize it all, and what to do first.

I needed a good friend to really understand what I was feeling. I craved not just sympathy, but empathy and reassurance that I would get through this devastating time. I wanted a practical and optimistic step-by-step approach to dementia, tailored to long-distance caregivers. But I couldn’t find it.

So I created Befriended Heart.

Love Notes

“My mom and brother are both trusting me more, and they’re actively listening to what I have to say – that’s been huge! I’m sleeping better at night now [now that my dad with dementia is no longer driving], and I’m also feeling at peace. If you told me years ago that I could heal the gap between my mom and me, I wouldn’t have believed you. I have mourned my relationship with my mom for many many years. Now [that I know how to bridge the gap] my heart feels so full and bursting, because we are transforming our relationship for the better. I’m very very grateful.” - Christine R.
